Case Study: IEV Successfully Executes Pipeline Free Span Correction & Cold-Cutting Scopes With A Multi-Skilled Crew

SubSea

Managing cost is the key challenge of any project, especially for one that is offshore and laden with uncertainties such as monsoon weather conditions and topping it all, the current pandemic. Amidst these challenges, a prominent offshore contractor from Malaysia undertook a new pipelay project offshore Brunei which required free span correction and cold cutting services. Having over 20 years of combined experience in delivering these services, IEV was awarded both scopes.

IEV mobilized a 4-man multi-skilled crew to carry out the cutting of the 21”OD concrete coated pipelines and installed 17 grout bags at 7 locations for the free span correction scope. For the free span scope, a grout mixer, grout bags and cement were supplied. As for the cutting scope, the 26” Diamond Wire Cutting Tool was utilised. The campaign was conducted successfully completely with zero LTI.

For the first time, IEV provided a combined team to carry out both campaigns. The objective was to mobilise a multi-faceted crew to operate both scopes. The intent paid off and the project was conducted seamlessly and successfully. This also resulted in considerable savings to the client from having to mobilise two separate teams from two service providers.
