IEV Earned 4th MGP Contract For Jetty In Malaysia

In 2018, a prominent Port Operator in Malaysia commissioned a trial of the Marine Growth Preventers (MGPs) designed specifically to remove and prevent marine growth and microbially induced corrosion (MIC) on jetty piles. The one-unit-per-pile MGP prevents marine growth and MIC at the splash zone level where it is most prolific due to availability of sunlight and nutrients.

IEV is pleased to announce the partnership with OMNIFLEX, a 50-year old remote monitoring specialist that supplies a range of remote monitoring solutions to cathodic protection, tank farms, industrial equipment, to name a few. The first product to be launched by the alliance IEV-OMNIFLEX IS the PowerView CP, a remote cathodic protection system that can be installed to monitor new or existing ICCP system. In addition to the array of benefits, the PowerView CP employs a specially designed High Efficiency Transformer Rectifiers (TR) based on the principle of distributed CP that offers significant reduction in cabling and energy costs. In embracing the Internet of Things (IoT), the PowerView CP runs on a remote controlling software that enables the CP Engineer to monitor the CP condition from anywhere internet is accessible.

Challenges

Corrosion under pipe support (CUPS) is a major hidden threat and one of the most aggressive types of corrosion attack on piping systems. CUPS is caused by several factors. Traditionally, the design of pipe supports allows for crevices to be formed which can lead to crevice corrosion in the presence of moisture. Protective coating damages, metal to metal contact and galvanic corrosion also lead to CUPS. The most common causes of external piping failure in ageing assets are due to highly localised deterioration by corrosion in areas which are less accessible and difficult to inspect and repair. As a result, operators may face huge pipe replacement costs, loss of pressure containment and production or in some cases, explosion and massive economic consequences.
